Treasurer’s Report 2018-19

The main fundraising focus for the PTA over this past year was to support the purchase of Chromebooks for school, of which a contribution of £3000 was made for this financial year. We received a generous grant of £2000 from the Notgrove Trust which made a significant addition to the library books available for the children, alongside this we received donations from Stratton Education Foundation and Zurich Insurance which also helped with the purchase of new books.

The PTA organised a successful Christmas Fayre and a kind donation from SJP allowed us to purchase some desirable raffle prizes which boosted raffle tickets sales and our profit for this event! The school disco’s continued to be as popular as always and we hosted our second curry and quiz night, both of which were great social events as well as an excellent source of funds.

A donation of £1000 from Tesco ‘blue token’ initiative left a healthy closing balance for 2018/2019 and another PTA contribution of £3000 was made towards the Chromebooks shortly into the next financial year. With a sufficient opening balance built up in the previous year, coupled with the successful events organised throughout 2018/19 and significant donations we have been able to support this investment in technology for our children.

Chairman's Report 2018-19

Back in June 2018 when the current PTA committee took over, I think it’s fair to say we didn’t know what we were doing.
Most of us had never really been involved in the PTA before - we just thought we’d give it a go. We spent the early days trying to establish the basics - where were the legendary PTA Shed & PTA Cupboard, who was authorised to sign PTA cheques and where could two of them be found at the same time, and who would play Santa at the Christmas Fayre now that our normal Santa had retired? And eventually we learned the greatest PTA secret of all - without regular donations of home baked cakes the whole thing would grind to a halt!

But after running our first big event – the Christmas Fayre - we found our feet and realised that with a bit of planning and plenty of enthusiasm and willing volunteers it wasn’t too difficult and was almost enjoyable! And after counting up the money at the end of the night and realising we’d made over £2,000 we had a warm glow inside to go with it! Since then we’ve run: a Family Photo Shoot, a Curry & Quiz night, the Summer Fayre, a Family Bingo day, 3 Discos, monthly Cake sales and numerous refreshment stalls at school events. We’ve served tonnes of cake and litres of tea, coffee & squash, deluged local businesses with raffle donation requests, stuck raffle tickets onto endless chocolate bars & bottles and applied acres of facepaint, glitter & tattoos at Discos.

Thanks to a small group of reliable ‘usual suspects’ who always offer to help out at our events (you know who you are!) it has also been great fun. And along the way we’ve helped to fund new Chromebooks, library books, sports tops, stage lighting and last but not least 200 ice pops & Christmas crackers! So if you’d like to help us to help the school, just text your mobile number to 07776 134 367 and join our WhatApp group. What’s the worst that can happen!
