We started this week, celebrating Easter at church, for what was likely to be our last service with Reverend David. So, not only did we sing our Easter songs and read our prayers, but we also gave him cards that we had made, together with a picture of the school for him to remember us by. Later in the week we had the K'nex challenge. We spent the afternoon designing and constructing a mechanism with crank, that could lift a heavy box. We had to work well as a team, solve problems and present our products at the end.
We had a great time at this week's forest school, where we built a fire and cooked our own hotdogs and popcorn. We also worked hard to try making our vacuum cleaners work - it took a lot of perseverance and problem solving.
This week, we enjoyed celebrating World Maths Day by exploring the Fibonacci sequence and where it can be seen in nature. We drew our own Fibonacci spirals and held a 'Fibon-ART-cci' competition. We also enjoyed our time reading with Class R, holding a Mock Election in Wellbeing and working on achieving personal bests in a variety of athletics activities.
This week Class 6 had their day in court at the Mock Trials. This is simulated Magistrates Court trial where the children take on roles such as solicitors, witnesses, and magistrates. For the last month we have been preparing for a case of handing stolen goods. Both our prosecution and defence teams performed amazingly and won their respective cases. Moreover, the children worked together and represented themselves and the school beautifully. Well done Class 6!
This week we read with our buddies, enjoyed pretending to be giraffes and making fans. We now know about evolution and have some good ideas about how we can create a suction force. See the video below to see us using centrifugal force to suck up pieces of paper - we won't mention the fact that they then sprayed around the room!
It's been another busy week in Class 6. We have had to work hard, practising our maths, reading, spelling and grammar and punctuation. But rest assured, we have made time for fun too! In Forest School, we made fires and we had a whole day of activities on Friday to celebrate World Book Day.
What a busy first week we have had: we had a visit from Penny with her Therapy dog Connie; we enjoyed inventing routines in PE to incorporate different types of jumps and turns; we pretended to be Galapagos Finches eating rice; and we listened to our Class R buddies read.
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
